Dependability in realization and utilization of low volume production and not-tested or partly testable items: Ensuring the compliance with the design

Abstract

The IEC 63697 standard addresses the assurance of reliability in the development, manufacture and use of small-batch production runs and products that cannot be tested, or can only be tested to a limited extent. Its aim is to demonstrate the product´s conformity with the approved design even when traditional final testing is not possible, or only possible to a limited extent. Instead of comprehensive testing, the focus is on process-oriented measures such as robust design, structured development and manufacturing processes, design reviews, and consistent configuration and change management. The standard is particularly relevant for safety-critical industries where high reliability requirements must be met and documented in a traceable manner.
