Power transmission engineering; flexible shaft couplings; parameters and design principles
Abstract
This document applies to slip-free couplings whose power transmission elements consist of elastomers that are partially or fully flexible, as well as metal-elastic spring elements (e.g., steel lamellae or curved teeth). The calculation methods listed for the design of flexible shaft couplings preferably include experience-based load factors and, furthermore, apply only to the linear two-mass oscillator under specific operating conditions. In cases where, for safety reasons or due to the technical complexity of the system to be analyzed, simple rough estimates are no longer permissible, and special conditions of multi-mass systems—such as time-dependent stress histories, nonlinear torsional spring stiffness, clearance, etc.— must be taken into account, it is necessary to resort to mathematically more complex calculation methods (e.g., simulation techniques).
