Fine ceramics (advanced ceramics, advanced technical ceramics) - Test methods for fracture toughness of monolithic ceramics - Single-edge V-notch beam (SEVNB) method (ISO/DIS 23146:2025); German and English version prEN ISO 23146:2025

Abstract

This document specifies a method for the determination of the fracture toughness of advanced ceramics by the single-edge V-notch beam (SEVNB) method. The procedure makes use of SEVNB test pieces, which are loaded in three-point or four-point bending until failure. This method is applicable to monolithic ceramics and whisker- or particulate-reinforced ceramics that are regarded as macroscopically homogeneous.
