DIN EN 61709

Title (German)

Elektrische Bauelemente - Zuverlässigkeit - Referenzbedingungen für Ausfallraten und Beanspruchungsmodelle zur Umrechnung (IEC 61709:2017 + COR1:2019); Deutsche Fassung EN 61709:2017 + AC:2019

Overview

This document is a guideline on the use of failure rate data for predicting the reliability of electrical components used in equipment. The method described in this document employs the concept of reference conditions; that is, typical values of stresses observed for components in the majority of applications. The prediction method described in this standard assumes that the components used are operated within their service life. This document does not offer basic failure rates for components, but rather models that make the derivation of failure rates possible through other means for converting from one operating condition to another. The standard differs from DIN EN 61709:2012-01 and DIN EN 61709 Corrigendum 1:2012-07 as follows: a) notes on the use of this document and Clause 19, Printed circuit boards (PCBs), and Clause 20, Hybrid circuits, with regard to IEC/TR 62380; b) addition of component failure modes in Annex A; c) amendment to Annex B, Thermal model for semiconductors, adopted and revised from IEC/TR 62380; d) amendment to Annex D, Considerations regarding the stress profile; e) amendment to Annex E, Models for service life, adopted and revised from IEC/TR 62380; f) revision of Annex F (previously B.2.6.4), Failure physics; g) addition of Annex G (previously Annex C), Considerations on the development of a database of failure rates, supplemented by parts of IEC 60319; h) addition of Annex H, Potential sources of failure rate data and methods for selection; i) addition of Annex J, Presentation of reliability data for electrical components, based on IEC 60319. This International Standard is intended for the reliability prediction of electrical components used in equipment and is aimed at organizations that have their own failure rate data; it describes how this data can be specified and used to perform reliability predictions. It may also be used by an organization to create a failure rate database and describes the reference conditions for which field failure rates should be specified. The reference conditions adopted in this standard are typical for the majority of component applications in equipment. However, if components are operated under other conditions, then the user may specify those conditions as the user's own reference conditions.
