DIN 51460-2
Testing of petroleum products - Method for sample preparation - Part 2: Incineration/oxide ash

Title (German)

Prüfung von Mineralölerzeugnissen - Verfahren zur Probenvorbereitung - Teil 2: Veraschen/Oxidasche

Overview

This standard specifies a sample digestion method for the determination of abrasive elements and impurities such as iron, lead, chromium, aluminum, tin, copper, molybdenum, nickel and silicon in the concentration range from about 1 mg/kg and for the determination of the additive elements calcium, magnesium and zinc in used oils. Depending on the type of element, either an acid medium (method A) or an alkaline melt (method B) shall be used. The two variants are specified in this standard. The recovery rate to be determined in each individual case is important for the subsequent final determination of the elements, for example with ICP-OES, ICP-MS or AAS. This document has been prepared by NA 062-06-11 AA "Atomspektrometrie" ("Atomic spectrometry") of the Petroleum, Fuels, Lubricants and Related Products Standardization Committee (FAM) at DIN Standards Committee Materials Testing (NMP).
