Chemical analysis of ferrous materials - Determination of boron in steels - Spectrophotometric method; German version EN 10200:2012

Title (German)

Chemische Analyse von Eisenwerkstoffen - Bestimmung von Bor in Stahl - Spektralphotometrisches Verfahren; Deutsche Fassung EN 10200:2012

Overview

This European Standard describes a spectrophotometric method for the determination of boron in steel. The method is applicable to non-alloyed and alloyed steels with a mass fraction of boron of 0,000 4 to 0,012 0 % (m/m). The principle is as follows: The test portion is dissolved in hydrochloric and nitric acids. Boron compounds (nitrides, etcetera) are decomposed with orthophosphoric and sulphuric acids at 290 °C. The complex formed between boric acid and curcumin is measured spectrophotometrically in buffered acetic medium at a wavelength of 543 nm. The committee responsible for this standard is NA 021-00-30 AA "Analysenverfahren" ("Methods of chemical analysis") at DIN.
