DIN EN 1678
Food processing machinery - Vegetable cutting machines - Safety and hygiene requirements; German version EN 1678:1998+A1:2010

Title (German)

Nahrungsmittelmaschinen - Gemüseschneidemaschinen - Sicherheits- und Hygieneanforderungen; Deutsche Fassung EN 1678:1998+A1:2010

Overview

This standard defines relevant requirements set out in Annex I of the EC Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC, relating to machines which were placed on the European Economic Area (EEA) market for the first time, with the intent of simplifying the means of proving conformity with such requirements. Once this standard is designated a harmonized standard in the Official Journal of the European Communities, a manufacturer applying this standard may assume compliance with the requirements of the Machinery Directive (the so-called presumption of conformity). This European Standard describes the safety and hygiene requirements for the design and manufacture of vegetable cutting machines which are transportable and have a maximum rated power less than 3 kW. This European Standard deals with machines intended for cutting, shredding, dicing, chipping and grating of food products in which the product passes through the machine. As described in 3.2.1, the types of machines in the scope are machines with a fixed chamber and rotating blade or cutting disc, with a rotating drum and fixed blades or machines with horizontal reciprocating cutters (mainly used for potato chipping). This European Standard deals with all significant hazards, hazardous situations and events relevant to vegetable cutting machines when they are used as intended and under conditions of misuse which are reasonably foreseeable by the manufacturer (see clause 4). This European Standard deals with the hazards which can arise during commissioning, operation, cleaning, removal of food blockages, feeding, changing the tools, maintenance and decommissioning of the machines. This European Standard does not apply to: food processors (see EN 12852); vegetable peelers (see EN 13208); vegetable cutting attachments which are mounted onto catering equipment (see EN 12851); planetary mixers (see EN 454); domestic machines. This European Standard is not applicable to vegetable cutting machines which were manufactured before the date of its publication as an EN. This standard contains the German version of EN 1678:1998+A1:2010, which has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 153 "Machinery intended for use with foodstuffs and feed" of the European Committee for Standardization (CEN). The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 1678:1998: a) The standard has been modified and adapted with respect to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC; b) An informative Annex ZB on the relationship between this European Standard and the essential requirements of Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC has been added. The national interests during the preparation of the standard were represented by Committee NA 060-18-04 AA "Großküchenmaschinen" ("Catering equipment") of Technical Section "Food Processing Machinery" of the Mechanical Engineering Standards Committee (NAM) at DIN. Representatives of the interested parties were involved in the preparation of this standard.
