BRAVE10k

Conditions for Framework Tendering, Processing, Road Approval and Deployment of More than 10,000 Public Autonomous Vehicles

Logo Brave10K

BRAVE10k is a key future-oriented project aimed at the nationwide, large-scale deployment of autonomous vehicles in public transport. The research project lays the foundations for integrating autonomous vehicles into public transport systems in a scalable, safe, and economically viable manner.

From pilot projects to widespread deployment in public transport

Autonomous shuttles and buses are already being tested in pilot projects. BRAVE10k is now focusing on the next step towards wider deployment. The aim is to make transport more efficient, reduce CO₂ emissions and sustainably increase the attractiveness of public transport. As a “Science-to-Business Center”, BRAVE10k translates scientific, technological and regulatory findings into practical solutions for transport operators, industry and municipalities. To this end, around 20 partners from the transport, industry, digitalization, research and standardization sectors are working together.

The focus is on:

  • standardized procedures for planning, tendering, approval and authorization,
  • digital tools and models for preparing and evaluating operations,
  • a digital twin for simulating operations, safety and performance,
  • open interfaces and standards to enable different systems to work together.

Standards and specifications for autonomous mobility

DIN prepares relevant standards and specifications and supports the transfer of the project results into standardization activities relating to the digital twin and the Operational Design Domain (ODD), i.e. the conditions under which an automated driving system can operate. The standardization documents developed in the project – such as DIN SPECs – are intended to serve as a basis for European and international standardization activities in the long term and contribute to the development of future standards for automated and autonomous mobility.
