DIN Standards Committee Technical Fundamentals

Overview

Many different marking systems with a technical, commercial or organizational background are used in the life cycle of an industrial plant. From a technical point of view, the Reference Designation System (RDS) according to the DIN EN 81346 series plays a central role as the basis for structuring the systems and classifying the individual object types. This standard applies in conjunction with DIN EN 81346-1, DIN EN 81346-2 and DIN ISO/TS 81346-3 for the structuring of chemical plants and for the labeling of technical objects and their documentation. Based on DIN EN 81346-1, this standard defines the rules for structuring chemical plants. In addition, rules and instructions are provided for the creation of unique reference identifiers for objects in chemical plants. Furthermore, the relationships between the reference identifier and signal identifiers, connection identifiers and document identifiers are described. Based on DIN EN 81346-2, specific object classes of chemical industrial plants are listed and assigned to the globally valid cross-sectoral code letters. Only the basic functions and product classes specified in DIN EN 81346-2 are used to form the reference identifiers. This standard supports cross-location information requirements such as statistical fault evaluations. The standard differs from DIN 6779-13:2003-06 as follows: a) adaptation to the ISO/IEC 81346 and DIN EN 81346 series; b) consideration of DIN 28000-3:2009-12, Annexes B and C; c) updating of the sample images; d) editorial revision.
