This document has been prepared by at DIN Standards Committee Sports Equipment (NASport), Working Committee NA 112-07-01 AA "Spielplatzgeräte" ("Playground equipment"). This European standard is based on the safety principles of EN 1176-1 for playground equipment and provides test methods for determining the shock absorption of playground surfaces intended for use in impact areas, as defined in EN 1176-1. This standard (EN 1177) aims to reduce the consequences for children of taking risks that are desirable for their development according to the principles set out in EN 1176-1.
