Guidelines for the qualitative technological-ecological sustainability assessment of adhesively bonded structures
Abstract
This document specifies the procedure for a qualitative, comparative, professional, and technologically and environmentally sustainable assessment, as well as a circular classification of bonded products across all product life cycle phases—from “Development/Design” through “Manufacturing/Production” and “use” to “end of product life,” including the reuse conditions and disposal options made possible by bonding technology in industry and the trades. The procedure for the technological-ecological sustainability assessment defined in this document is based on the EU Waste Framework Directive and the associated R-strategies and is conducted exclusively by comparing products with similar functions. This document is applicable to products: - manufactured using adhesive technology, compared with products manufactured using other joining methods; - manufactured using adhesive technology, compared with products manufactured without any joining technology from a single material (monomaterial); - that are manufactured using different adhesive systems; - that are manufactured using adhesive bonding or other joining methods, with products whose joined parts are functionally coated in such a way that the coatings perform the bonding function.
