Title (German)

Mensch-Maschine-Schnittstellen für Prozessautomatisierungssysteme (IEC 63303:2024); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 63303:2024

Overview

The aim of this standard is to describe the principles, design, implementation, operation, and maintenance of HMI systems for process automation systems. For this purpose it defines the terminology and the models for the development of a human-machine interface. This standard defines general structures and functions of HMI systems and a life cycle example for HMI systems. This standard specifies requirements and recommendations for functions and performance of HMI systems. This standard specifies requirements and recommendations for activities in each stage of the life cycle including designing, using, and maintaining the HMI system. It also provides recommendations with regard to the functions, work processes, user training, and performance of HMI systems. Several requirements and recommendations that a change management procedure should incorporate are included in this document. However, a specific change management procedure has not been included in this document. This document is not intended as a specification for the selection or procurement of an HMI system albeit, at the discretion of those who specify or request it, suppliers may be asked to provide an HMI system with the properties mentioned herein. This document does not preclude the need for technical assessment of acoustics. No specific platform or technology for HMI systems is prescribed or assumed. This document does not address potentially applicable regulatory requirements with regard to the design or operation of HMI systems in terms of their safety. The recommendations in this document are applicable to any controlled process using an HMI to interface to a control system, including but not limited to continuous, batch, and discrete processes. There can be differences in implementation to meet the specific needs based on the controlled process type. This document may be used for the following purposes: - as a guide to the design, construction, operation, and maintenance of HMI systems in order to achieve a safe, more effective control system under all operating conditions; and - to improve the user's ability to detect, diagnose, and appropriately respond to unusual situations.
