Mechanical vibration - Evaluation of machine vibration by measurements on non-rotating parts - Part 21: Horizontal axis wind turbines with gearbox (ISO/DIS 20816-21:2023)

Abstract

This part of DIN ISO 20816 specifies the measurement and evaluation of mechanical vibration of wind turbines and their components by measurements on non-rotating parts. It applies to wind turbines with a horizontal axis of rotation, a rated power output of the generator exceeding 200 kW and the following construction and operating characteristics: a) Installation on support systems (tower and foundation) made of steel and/or concrete; b) Rotor with horizontal axis of rotation and multiple rotor blades; c) Rotor bearings separate from the gearbox or generator or integrated; d) Generators coupled through a gearbox or directly to the rotor; e) Synchronous or asynchronous generators; g) Power control by rotor blade pitch adjustment; h) Nacelle with active wind tracking. In this part of DIN ISO 20816, zones for the assessment of vibration during continuous load operation are recommended. Limits of the assessment zones for wind turbines are given in an annex, based on vibration data from thousands of wind turbines with a rated power output of the generator of up to 5 MW. These can be useful for agreements between users and manufacturers. Although the nature and implementation of broadband vibration monitoring of wind turbines is discussed, this part of DIN ISO 20816 is not applicable to diagnosis or fault detection by condition monitoring of wind turbines. The evaluation of the balancing quality of the slowly rotating rotor of a wind turbine, for which special measurements and analyses are required, is not covered by this part of DIN ISO 20816. The international document ISO/DIS 20816-21 "Mechanical vibration - Evaluation of machine vibration by measurements on non-rotating parts - Part 21: Horizontal axis wind turbines" has been prepared by Technical Committee ISO/TC 108 "Mechanical vibration, shock and condition monitoring", Subcommittee SC 2 "Measurement and evaluation of mechanical vibration and shock as applied to machines, vehicles and structures", whose secretariat is held by DIN. German cooperation is provided by the committee NA 001-03-03 "Measurement and evaluation of mechanical vibration".
