Overview

This Technical Specification sets the requirements for bio-based solvents in terms of their properties, limit values, application classes and test methods. It lays down the characteristics and details for assessment of bio-based solvents and whether they: are fit for purpose in terms of performance related properties; comply with the health, safety and environmental requirements which apply generally to solvents; are derived from a minimum percentage of biomass; and satisfy at least similar sustainability criteria as comparable (normal) solvents. The criteria of the Regulation on the Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals (REACH) were integrated into the discussions which led to this publication. The Working Committee responsible for this Technical Specification is NA 172-00-11 AA "Biobasierte Produkte" ("Bio-based products") at DIN Standards Committee Principles of Environmental Protection (NAGUS).
