Elastomeric pharmaceutical packaging and related components
The working committee is responsible for the standardization of closures made of elastomeric components intended for use with containers for primary packaging materials for pharmaceutical and medical applications. This includes also closures and combination closures that also contain components made of materials other than elastomeric materials (combination seals).
Products covered by the scope of NA 176-04-05 AA include but are not limited to:
- closures including freeze drying closures for infusion bottles and injection vials,
- plunger stoppers and seals for injectables, e.g. for glass cylinders for pen systems and dental cartridges,
- tip caps and parts for needle shields for empty and prefilled single use syringes.
The standardization work includes the development of specifications including test methods, if applicable, for materials, dimensions, design and function, biological, chemical and physical characteristics as well as on labeling.
