Electrochemical characterisation at laboratory scale of non-noble porous metal-based electrodes for hydrogen generation in acidic medium
The objective of the Workshop is to develop a CWA that provides recommendations for the electrochemical characterization of non-noble, porous metal-based electrodes for hydrogen generation in acidic media at the laboratory scale. The CWA will establish standardized procedures to ensure the reproducibility and comparability of experimental data across different research groups. The document will define key aspects of the testing protocol, including: -The construction and setup of an appropriate electrochemical cell, -The necessary electrode pretreatment steps, - The standardized electrochemical techniques for evaluating catalytic activity and durability, - The key operating parameters and control strategies to be followed during testing, and Guidelines for data collection, interpretation, and reporting to facilitate consistency in characterization. By addressing the current lack of standardized laboratory-scale protocols for hydrogen evolution reaction (HER) materials, the CWA aims to support research groups, laboratories, and technology developers in benchmarking new electrocatalysts, ensuring reliable early-stage data, and accelerating the transition of promising materials from research to application.
