Overview

This European Technical Specification defines standards for data exchange for networks and timetables (NeTEx) for public transport. NeTEx is seen as a supplement to SIRI (Service Interface for Realtime Information). The use of open standardized interfaces generally improves the cost-effectiveness and technical feasibility of public transport systems. A large number of system suppliers can produce independent interchangeable systems and thus offer competitive products on the market. The series of standards thus promotes competition and avoids proprietary solutions from individual suppliers. Standardized solutions also allow automatic testing procedures of all functional modules, thus reducing the amount of testing and costs.
