Overview

This document includes additional terms and definitions relevant to the field. The distinction between heavy rail and urban rail has also been clarified to avoid misunderstandings in application. This document provides terms and definitions for rail networks and rail vehicles guided by rails and wheels made of steel and/or other materials, including heavy rail and urban rail systems, and serves as a reference for future European standards and the revision of existing standards. Committee NA 087-00-09 AA "Terminologie, Technische Dokumentation, Datenaustausch" ("Terminology, Technical Documentation, Data Exchange") at DIN is responsible for this standard.
