Safety requirements for cableway installations designed to carry persons - General requirements - Part 1: Requirements for all installations; German version prEN 12929-1:2025
Abstract
This document specifies the general provisions of the safety requirements for cableway installations designed to carry persons. Supplementary safety requirements for reversible bicable aerial ropeways without carrier truck brakes are specified in EN 12929-2. This part of EN 12929 specifies general technical characteristics, the principles for design and the general safety requirements. This part of EN 12929 does not specify details regarding operation and maintenance, calculations, or detailed provisions concerning the design of components. This part of EN 12929 sets out requirements relating to accident prevention and the protection of workers, without prejudice to the application of national regulations. National regulations of a construction or regulatory nature, or those designed to protect specific groups of people, remain unaffected. It will not always be possible to transport all specific groups of people (e.g. persons with reduced mobility) on all types of cableway installations. However, the aim is to enable as wide a range of people as possible to travel by cableway. This document does not apply to cableway installations for the transportation of goods or to lifts.
