DIN EN ISO 13130
Laboratory glassware - Desiccators (ISO 13130:2011); German version EN ISO 13130:2011

Title (German)

Laborgeräte aus Glas - Exsikkatoren (ISO 13130:2011); Deutsche Fassung EN ISO 13130:2011

Overview

Desiccators are used in laboratories for drying of substances and sample material and for storing of substances under defined conditions. As drying is often carried out under vacuum, desiccators shall meet corresponding safety requirements. The standard specifies requirements for materials, design, construction and vacuum tightness of two series of desiccators made of borosilicate glass 3.3. Dimensions, dimension ranges and tolerances for lids and desiccator bodies are laid down in tabular form and it is described how pressure strength shall be determined. Other specifications in the standard refer to fitness of use. This includes stability, resistance to thermal load and break as well as stability. Finally, requirements for the packaging and marking are specified. Normative Annex A of the standard describes the type test with which the pressure strength can be checked for compliance with the requirements of the standard. The International and European Standard was prepared upon a proposal put forward by India at ISO/TC 48 "Laboratory equipment" and CEN/TC 332 "Laboratory equipment". The responsible German Mirror Committee is AA "Glasgeräte und Apparate" ("Glassware and glass apparatus") of FNLa. DIN EN ISO 13130 replaces the older national standard DIN 12491:1998.
