Overview

This document describes safety requirements and tests for plug-in photovoltaic systems capable of operation by laypersons and intended for mains parallel operation (hereinafter referred to as "plug-in solar devices"), which feed energy into final circuits within a low-voltage installation by means of a preassembled plug connection. This document also contains requirements in order to ensure mechanical safety. This document applies to single-phase plug-in solar devices with a rated voltage up to 250 V AC and intended for household and similar purposes. The rated frequency amounts to 50 Hz. Such a plug-in solar device consists of at least one PV module, at least one grid-connected inverter, a connection cable, a plug-in device for connection to the final circuit, and a supplied or specified mounting system. This document applies to devices with a maximum apparent power of SAmax = 800 VA. This document serves as the basis for type testing. Requirements for the electrical system to which a plug-in solar device is connected are specified in the DIN VDE 0100 (VDE 0100) series of standards and in particular in DIN VDE V 0100-551-1 (VDE V 0100-551-1). This document does not apply to PV systems in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-712 (VDE 0100-712). This document does not apply to building-integrated PV modules (BIPV) or systems in accordance with DIN EN 50583-1 and DIN EN 50583-2. This document does not deal with building code requirements. This document does not contain any requirements for the operation of electrical energy storage systems in combination with plug-in solar devices. Separate requirements shall also be met for devices with electrical energy storage systems. This pre-standard applies to plug-in solar devices that are sold as products that can be operated by laypersons. These devices offer a simple means with which to generate electricity primarily for use in one's own household. Owing to their dimensioning and handling, they represent electricity-generating products intended for the domestic environment. Thus a standardized test procedure is required for these plug-in solar devices. This pre-standard serves as the basis for type testing and the manufacturer's declaration of conformity on the basis thereof.
