Overview
This document defines additional testing requirements for modules deployed under applications or in environments where PV modules are likely to be exposed to the impact of hailstones leading to higher stress beyond the scope of the IEC 61215 series. The tests specified in this document can differentiate the hail resistance of PV modules by subjecting test specimens to hail exposure prior to the selected tests in accordance with IEC 61215-2:2021, Figure 2, and measuring the additional power loss compared to reference modules that underwent the same tests without hail exposure. There are no restrictions on the scope of this document. Comparison of the electroluminescence images and the performance of reference modules and modules that have been subjected to hail exposure provides additional insights into hail resistance and sensitivity to hail. This document aims to assist in the selection of modules for deployment in specific regions that have a higher risk of hail damage and to provide tools for improving module design.
