Overview
This application guidance deals with residual current devices (RCDs) with a rated voltage not exceeding 440 V AC and rated currents not exceeding 125 A for household and similar uses. SRCDs are approved in accordance with DIN VDE 0100-530 (VDE 0100-530) for increasing the level of protection and not for the protective measure "automatic disconnection of the power supply" or for additional protection and thus are not discussed in detail in this application guidance. MRCDs and CBRs are primarily intended for industrial use and therefore are not discussed in detail in this application guidance. The standard differs from DIN EN 61008-1 Supplement 1 (VDE 0664-10 Supplement 1):2012-10 as follows: a) update of terms and definitions; b) expansion of the general information on protection by means of residual current devices; c) adjustment with regard to marking and characteristic properties; d) update of references; e) adjustment of information on overload protection. The aim of this supplement is to provide persons involved in the planning, installation, and maintenance of electrical systems with information on the design and operation of residual current protective devices, as well as application guidelines for their installation and use.
