Blitzschutz - Teil 3: Schutz von baulichen Anlagen und Personen (IEC 62305-3:2024); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 62305-3:2024
Overview
This standard applies to the design, installation, inspection and maintenance of an LPS for structures without limitation of their height, and establishment of measures for protection against injury to human beings primarily due to touch and step voltages. This document provides the requirements for protection of a structure against physical damage by means of a lightning protection system (LPS), and for protection against injury to human beings due to touch and step voltages in the vicinity of an LPS. This standard does not cover protection against failures of electrical and electronic systems due to overvoltages, nor does it include specific requirements for the lightning protection of wind turbine generator systems. Surge protection measures within the meaning of this standard serve the purpose of preventive fire protection. The standard differs from DIN EN 62305-3 (VDE 0185-305-3):2011-10 as follows: a) EN IEC 62305-3 has been adopted in full; b) supplementary notes on the retrofitting of lightning protection systems in the national foreword; c) inclusion of a special national condition for determining the required protection class according to DIN EN 62305-1 (VDE 0185-305-1), national annex; d) editorial revision of the standard: - the former Annex A has been integrated into Annex D; - the current Annex A corresponds to the former Annex B; - the current Annex B corresponds to the former Annex C; - the current Annex C corresponds to the former Annex D; - the current Annex D corresponds to the former Annex E; e) reference in the national foreword to statutory provisions; f) Clause 3 has been supplemented; g) Clause 5 has been supplemented with provisions for "electrically isolated lightning protection"; h) Clause 5 has been supplemented with additional requirements with regard to the use of natural materials; i) Clause 5 has been revised with regard to the representations; j) Subclause 6.3 has been supplemented to include the general approach for determining the separation distance and new requirements for the separation distance in buildings with a metal or electrically interconnected reinforced concrete skeleton; k) Table 4 has been newly added and contains data on the maximum temperature rise of the inner surface for various thicknesses t'' (mm) due to the effect of lightning; l) additional requirements with regard to the use of components in accordance with the DIN EN IEC 62561 series of standards (VDE 0185-561); m) Clause 7 has been supplemented with additional information on the maintenance and testing of lightning protection systems; n) Table 7 and Table 8 have been revised with regard to materials and dimensions; o) Clause 8 (step and touch voltages) has been revised; p) Subclause D.5.2.3.3 has been supplemented with recommendations for the lightning protection of buildings taller than 60 m; q) Subclause D.5.2.6.4 has been updated to include information on lightning protection measures for green roofs; r) Subclause D.5.3.5.2.1 has been updated to include a recommendation for a measurement current of 10 A for measurements on reinforcement. This standard applies to the design, installation, and inspection of lightning protection systems for structures and buildings of all types.
