Overview
This part of IEC 60794 applies to optical fibre cables for use with telecommunication equipment and devices employing similar techniques, and to cables having a combination of both optical fibres and electrical conductors. The object of this document is to define test procedures to be used in establishing uniform requirements for tensile performance. Throughout this document the wording "optical cable" may also include optical fibre units, microduct fibre units, etcetera. See IEC 60794-1-2 for general requirements and definitions and for a complete reference guide to test methods of all types. This document describes the test setup, conditioning, test conditions, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, test severity, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details with regard to the test report. This document is intended for manufacturers and testing organizations and does not apply to the testing of installed cables. The standard differs from DIN EN 60794-1-21 (VDE 0888-100-21):2021-03 as follows: a) the test setup and implementation descriptions have been updated and detailed. Application of this document increases investment security for manufacturers and users, provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications, and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
