Overview
This part of IEC 60793 establishes uniform requirements for measuring the mode field diameter (MFD) of single-mode optical fibre, thereby assisting in the inspection of fibres and cables for commercial purposes. This document covers the fundamentals of measurement, a description of the measurement setup, calibration and execution, documentation and evaluation of the measurement. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of this document. Application of this standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users, and testing laboratories and manufacturers are provided with defined specifications for testing.
