Overview

This part of IEC 61300 specifies a test to determine the influence of flexing under tensile load of the strain relief of fibre optic interconnecting devices or components. The intention is to simulate the number of flexing cycles which would typically be experienced during service life. This test is applied to both single fibre cable and multiple fibre cable. Optical fibre connectors and other elements of the optical transmission path are precision components whose operational behavior is critical for their functionality. Test requirements are published in the DIN EN IEC 61300 series of standards. The requirements for operational behavior are found in the DIN EN IEC 61753 series of standards. The standard describes the test setup, conditioning, monitoring, recovery time, final measurement, and measurement uncertainties, as well as details with regard to the test report. There are no restrictions on the scope of application of the document. Application of this standard increases investment security for manufacturers and users and provides testing laboratories and manufacturers with defined specifications for testing.
