Title (German)

Automatische elektrische Regel- und Steuergeräte - Teil 1: Allgemeine Anforderungen (IEC 60730-1:2013, modifiziert + COR1:2014 + A1:2015 + A2:2020); Deutsche Fassung EN 60730-1:2016 + A1:2019 + A2:2022 + A11:2024

Overview

This part of IEC 60730 applies to automatic electrical controls for use in, on, or in association with equipment for household and similar use, including controls for heating, air-conditioning and similar applications. The equipment may use electricity, gas, oil, solid fuel, solar thermal energy, etcetera, or a combination there of. This standard applies to automatic electrical controls for equipment that is used by the public, such as equipment intended to be used in shops, offices, hospitals, farms and commercial and industrial applications. This standard applies to automatic electrical controls that are AC or DC powered with a rated voltage not exceeding 690 V AC or 600 V DC. This standard also applies to relays when they are used as automatic electrical controls in equipment in accordance with IEC 60335. The additional requirements regarding the safety and performance of relays when they are used as automatic electrical controls in equipment in accordance with IEC 60335 are contained in Annex U. This standard applies to the electrical and functional safety of controls capable of receiving and responding to communication signals, including signals for electricity billing and demand response. This standard applies to controls powered by primary or secondary batteries, the requirements for which are included in the standard, including Annex V. This standard applies to controls that are mechanically or electrically operated, responsive to or controlling such characteristics as temperature, pressure, passage of time, humidity, light, electrostatic effects, flow, or liquid level, current, voltage, acceleration, or combinations thereof. This standard applies to starting relays that are designed as a special type of automatic electrical relay for switching the starting windings of motors. Such controls may be built into the motor or be separate from it. This standard also applies to controls that contain electronic components; the requirements for these are contained in Annex H. This standard applies to controls with thermistors; see also Annex J. This standard does not apply to automatic electronic controls intended exclusively for industrial process applications unless explicitly mentioned in the relevant part 2 or the equipment standard. The standard differs from DIN EN 60730-1 (VDE 0631-1):2021-06 as follows: a) normative references to varistors have been added; b) terms have been replaced and new terms added, for example, "temperature of the mounting surface"; c) labels or information have been updated; d) requirements for protection against electric shock and requirements for construction have been updated; e) Table 12 has been updated; f) updates to Clauses 14, 17, 20, and 24; g) updates to Annexes H.11, H.26, H.27, J, Q, and T. Examples of applications include controls for appliances falling within the scope of IEC 60335 or controls for commercial kitchens, heating, and air conditioning systems. Other examples include independently mounted water valves, controls in smart grids, and controls for building automation systems falling within the scope of ISO 16484-2.
