Overview
This part of the IEC 60068 series of standards contains a description of various test methods for testing the tightness of enclosures or containers used to protect electrical products. Both major and minor leaks should be detected. Part 2-18 can be consulted for further assistance if necessary. As a result, the consistency of the proper functioning of the products is evaluated in light of the tests. Reference is made to similar tests in the DIN EN 60529 (VDE 0470-1) standard. The standard differs from DIN EN 60068-2-17:1995-05 as follows: a) "Survey of sealing tests" has been deleted and the relevant content moved to a new Clause 4 "General"; b) the Scope has been revised; c) the figures have been updated for clarification purposes; d) all non-SI units have been removed; e) the information to be given in the relevant specification has been revised. As a test method for electrotechnical products in general, the standard DIN EN IEC 60068-2-17 (VDE 0468-2-17) covers a wide range of test situations; as such, there are no typical application examples for this generally applicable standard.
