Overview

This document specifies the procedure for determining noise emissions caused by electrical discharges on the conductors of high-voltage overhead lines with a nominal voltage of at least 220 kilovolts (kV). Lines with lower rated voltages (for example, 110 kV) generally have significantly lower edge field strengths, which are outside the scope of the calculation formulas recommended in this document and do not result in any relevant noise emissions. However, in the case of multiple lines with circuits of ≥ 220 kV and, at the same time, those with lower nominal voltages (for example, 110 kV), the influences of the circuits with the lower nominal voltage shall be taken into account when calculating the edge field strength of the entire line arrangement. The recommended calculation method applies to lines with aluminum-steel conductors or other conductors made of stranded wires (round, trapezoidal, or Z-shaped) of pure or alloyed aluminum in the outer layer. The use of special conductors or conductor applications may be aimed at increasing the conductor diameter and reducing the edge field strength accordingly, in particular with insulating or semiconducting materials on the surface. The sound emissions of such applications cannot be assessed solely with the calculation methods presented below, but require measurement-based evidence. Discharge noises at individual point sources of interference, such as fitting parts of insulator chains on overhead line masts or in a substation or switchgear, cannot be determined using the methods presented below and are not covered by this document. The description of sound transmission to the receiving point is not covered by this document. For this, reference is made to DIN ISO 9613-2:1999-10.
