Fuel cell technologies - Part 6-101: Micro fuel cell power systems - Safety - General requirements (IEC 62282-6-101:2024); German version EN IEC 62282-6-101:2024

Title (German)

Brennstoffzellentechnologien - Teil 6-101: Mikrobrennstoffzellen-Energiesysteme - Sicherheit - Allgemeine Anforderungen (IEC 62282-6-101:2024); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 62282-6-101:2024

Overview

The scope of this document covers micro fuel cell power systems and fuel cartridges that are wearable or easily carried by hand, providing direct current outputs that do not exceed 60 V DC and power outputs that do not exceed 240 VA. This document establishes the requirements for micro fuel cell power systems and fuel cartridges to ensure a reasonable degree of safety for normal use, reasonably foreseeable misuse, and cargo and consumer transportation and storage of such items. The general safety requirements addressed in this document apply equally to all micro fuel cell energy systems. Depending on the type of fuel used, additional specific safety requirements may apply, which are described in the relevant technology standards. The scope of this document does not include fuel cartridges that are intended to be refilled by the user or consumer. Furthermore, micro fuel cell energy systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres, as well as their fuel cartridges, are excluded from the scope of this document. The standard differs from DIN EN 62282-6-100 (VDE 0130-6-100):2012-06 and DIN EN 62282-6-100/A1 (VDE 0130-6-100/A1):2013-08 as follows: a) the structure has been reorganized: IEC 62282-6-101 contains the general safety requirements that apply to all fuel types, while IEC 62282-6-102 and the subsequent parts of the IEC 62282-6-1 series of standards, etcetera, deal with specific requirements for certain fuel types based on the requirements specified in IEC 62282-6-101. A typical application example of this standard is the testing of the safety of micro fuel cells, for example with regard to tightness under reduced ambient pressure, as found in aircraft, or resistance to shocks and vibrations.
