Overview
This document deals with micro fuel cell power systems or micro fuel cell power units based on proton exchange membrane fuel cell technologies, as well as their fuel cartridges. Borohydride formulations (UN Division 8) from which hydrogen is released are used as fuel. This document deals with additional fuel-specific requirements to ensure an adequate level of safety during normal use, reasonably foreseeable misuse, and transport and storage of these devices as cargo and by the user. This document is not a stand-alone standard, but is designed as a fuel-specific supplement to IEC 62282-6-101 and should be used in conjunction with it. The standard differs from DIN EN 62282-6-100 (VDE 0130-6-100):2012-06 and DIN EN 62282-6-100/A1 (VDE 0130-6-100/A1):2013-08 as follows: a) the IEC 62282-6 series of standards has been restructured and divided so that the general safety requirements for micro fuel cell power systems are contained in IEC 62282-6-100 and the specific requirements for the individual fuel types are contained in the other parts of the IEC 62282-6 series of standards. A typical application example of this standard is the testing of the safety of micro fuel cells that release their fuel hydrogen from corrosive borohydride compounds, for example with regard to tightness under reduced ambient pressure, as found in aircraft, or resistance to shocks and vibrations.
