Overview
The scope of IEC 63189-2:2023 is applicable to virtual power plants (VPPs) that consist of distributed generation, controllable loads, and electrical energy storages. This standard is to provide VPPs use cases that capture the basic information, business roles, actors, scenarios, and processes. The aim is to provide uniform structures for the management and integration of VPPs in order to ensure efficient decentralized energy use and distribution. The scope is limited to virtual power plants that use a combination of distributed energy generation and storage. It does not address specific implementations or hardware requirements for other energy systems, but focuses on the overall processes, roles, and use cases for managing VPPs. Typical use cases include the management of decentralized energy generation in a smart grid context, load control in a VPP to optimize energy distribution, and the integration of energy storage systems to stabilize the grid and ensure a reliable energy supply.
