Overview
This standard specifies minimum requirements for electrical installations for emergency lighting systems, as well as requirements for their initial testing, continuous monitoring, and maintenance. This document does not contain any requirements for replacement lighting. The standard differs from DIN EN 50172 (VDE 0108-100):2005-01 and DIN VDE V 0108-100-1 (VDE V 0108-100-1):2018-12 as follows: a) requirements for devices/equipment for safety lighting have been added; b) requirements for initial testing have been added; c) requirements for handover documentation have been added; d) requirements for the test log have been added; e) requirements for the maintenance and testing of safety lighting systems have been changed; f) notes on the selection of suitable system operating times and activation times for various applications have been added as Annex A; g) recommendations on how to carry out on-site measurements have been added as Annex B; h) notes on emergency lighting systems during and after temporary shutdown of a building or in the event of a prolonged power failure have been added as Annex C; i) requirements for the design of system cabling have been added as Annex D. Emergency escape lighting includes escape route lighting, open area (anti-panic) lighting, local area lighting and high risk task area lighting. Escape route safety signs are part of emergency escape lighting.
