Overview
This document defines the application authentication mechanism (A-profile) specifying messages, procedures and algorithms for securing the operation of all protocols based on or derived from IEC 60870-5: Telecontrol Equipment and Systems – Transmission Protocols. This document contains requirements for a secure communication mechanism for all protocols based on IEC 60870-5 and describes security protocol procedures. It is expected that the organization's response to the events and fault conditions described in this standard will be defined by the organization's security policies, which are beyond the scope of this standard. This standard is intended for product developers who implement and apply the IEC 60870-5 protocols. Parts of this standard may also be useful for managers and executives to understand the purpose and requirements.
