Measurement procedures for materials used in photovoltaic modules - Part 2-1: Polymeric materials - Frontsheet and backsheet - Safety requirements (IEC 62788-2-1:2023); German version EN IEC 62788-2-1:2023
Messverfahren für Werkstoffe, die in Photovoltaik-Modulen verwendet werden - Teil 2-1: Polymerwerkstoffe - Frontsheets und Backsheets - Sicherheitsanforderungen (IEC 62788-2-1:2023); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 62788-2-1:2023
Overview
This document specifies the safety requirements for flexible polymeric frontsheet and backsheet constructions, which are intended for use as relied upon insulation in photovoltaic (PV) modules. The specifications in this document define the specific requirements of the polymeric frontsheet or backsheet constructions on the component level and cover mechanical, electrical, visual and thermal characterization in an unexposed state and/or after ageing. This document contains the requirements for the qualification of front- and backsheets for use in module qualification according to IEC 61730-1. Descriptions of the test methods are contained in IEC TS 62788-2, together with additional characterization methods that are useful for operational behavior or quality assurance. For the qualification of a PV module that uses a front- or backsheet made of polymer material, the film shall meet the requirements of IEC 61730-1, the requirements in this document for the specified protection class of the module, the rated system voltage, and the rated module temperature. This document covers Class II and Class 0 modules as defined in IEC 61730-1. Class III modules are not within the scope of this document. Compliance with the safety requirements for front- or backsheets at the component level does not replace the need for safety qualification of the entire module containing the front- or backsheet. The appropriate requirements for testing and qualifying PV modules are defined in IEC 61730-1 and (or in the case of repeat testing) IEC 61730-2, with test methods included in IEC 61730-2 and IEC 61215-2. This document contains test methods and specifications for polymer front- and backsheet constructions used in a PV module for the purpose of component-level safety qualification. Test methods have been compiled to meet the general requirements for polymer materials used as reliable insulation, as specified in the IEC 61730 series of standards, taking into account the test methods in IEC TS 62788-2 (characterization of front- and backsheets), IEC TS 62788-7-2 (weathering test with UV light) and the guidelines for repeat testing in IEC TS 62915. This document contains explanations of definitions of types of front- and backsheet structures and associated test requirements, as well as additional environmental stress tests referred to in IEC 61730-1. The separation of component-level tests into this document was considered in order to limit the complexity of the IEC 61730 series of standards, and also in view of the implementation of the test methods within the IEC system for conformity assessment programs for electrical equipment and components (IECEE). This document focuses on safety-related properties of front- and backsheets as required by IEC 61730.
