Title (German)

Drehende elektrische Maschinen - Teil 18-1: Funktionelle Bewertung von Isoliersystemen - Allgemeine Richtlinien (IEC 60034-18-1:2022); Deutsche Fassung EN IEC 60034-18-1:2023

Overview

DIN EN IEC 60034-18 (VDE 0530-18) comprises several main sections dealing with the various types of functional evaluation and specific test methods for insulation systems of rotating electrical machines. DIN EN IEC 60034-18-1 (VDE 0530-18-1) contains the general guidelines for such procedures and the principles of qualification, whereas the following parts DIN EN IEC 60034-18-21 (VDE 0530-18-21), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-22 (VDE 0530-18-22), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-31 (VDE 0530-18-31), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-32 (VDE 0530-18-32), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-33 (VDE 0530-18-33), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-34 (VDE 0530-18-34), DIN EN IEC 60034-18-41 (VDE 0530-18-41) and DIN EN IEC 60034-18-42 (VDE 0530-18-42) contain the detailed procedures for the various types of windings. In addition, DIN EN IEC 60034-18-41 (VDE 0530-18-41) and DIN EN IEC 60034-18-42 (VDE 0530-18-42) contain special test procedures for the electrical evaluation of windings that are electrically stressed by converter feed. The following requirements are covered, among others: This part of DIN EN IEC 60034 (VDE 0530) covers general guidelines for the functional evaluation of electrical insulation systems used or intended for use in rotating electrical machines in accordance with DIN EN IEC 60034-1 (VDE 0530-1), as well as the qualification of such insulation systems. This part specifies general requirements for the qualification of insulation systems for which, based on experience, the Arrhenius equations do not necessarily apply to thermal aging. The scope of application includes the following restrictions: The methods for functional evaluation allow comparisons and enable the qualification of test insulation systems. However, they cannot fully determine the advantages of any particular insulating system. In principle, it is not possible to predict the operating life of individual winding insulation on the basis of functional tests. Such information can generally only be obtained from extensive operating experience. The standard differs from DIN EN 60034-18-1 (VDE 0530-18-1):2010-09 as follows: a) as before, the standard provides general guidelines for the functional evaluation of different types of windings, but also contains additional information for the electrical evaluation and qualification of windings under converter operation; b) it is now specifically geared towards the general guidelines, while all technical details of the test procedures and qualification rules have been moved to the following parts of this series of standards; c) it provides additional details on the general guidelines for functional evaluation and qualification, in particular the methods to be used for comparing reference and test insulation systems, for introducing a qualification concept for different expected operating lifetimes, and for evaluating minor changes in components and in the manufacturing process. Typical examples of application include: - evaluation of minor changes in components, manufacturing, or design, - acceleration of the aging process, - multifactor aging in low- and high-voltage machines subject to high mechanical or thermomechanical stress.
