Overview
This document contains the initial, start of life dimensional, optical, mechanical and environmental performance requirements of a fully installed splice closure in order for it to be categorized as a European Standard product. In addition to the general requirements - material requirements, storage, transport, packaging, installation and intervention, overpressure safety, color, and marking - a coding system for the types of design is also proposed. Furthermore, the dimensional requirements are specified. Everything is supplemented with the necessary requirements for testing operational performance and the test report. There are no restrictions on the application of the standard. The standard differs from DIN EN 50411-2-4 (VDE 0888-500-24):2014-07 as follows: a) reference EN IEC 61756-1 has been added; b) terms and definitions have been added; c) general requirements have been harmonized with the EN IEC 61753-111 series of standards; d) the tests and test severities of categories A and S in IEC 61753-1:2007 have been replaced by the tests and test severance characteristics of categories A and S in IEC 61753-1:2018; e) the maximum single-loop splice capacity of the size E housing has been reduced from 84 splices to 72 splices; f) version XX7 (FMS designed for fiber type) has been added; g) test pressure for category A has been changed to 20 kPa overpressure; h) reduced loads for tensile strength testing of cables and tubes with small diameters; i) axial pressure testing of cables has been added; j) the number of assembly and disassembly cycles has been reduced to 5 cycles; k) resistance to solvents and contaminating liquids for category S has been changed. The duration of immersion in diesel fuel has been changed to 1 hour and the drying time to 24 hours. Immersion in kerosene has been deleted; l) the duration of the temperature change has been reduced to 12 cycles; m) the test for "resistance to shotgun damage" has been deleted; n) fiber type B-567 for samples has been added. This document increases investment security for manufacturers and users through its application and provides test laboratories and manufacturers with defined test specifications and ensures compatibility across manufacturers.
