Overview
Magnetic and capacitive couplers consist of a transmitting device and a receiving device on both sides of a galvanic isolation barrier. The transmitting device transmits a signal through the isolation barrier, the receiving device detects this signal and generates the electrical signal at the output. These components can be used for galvanic isolation of control signals or measurement signals or for power isolation. This standard applies to devices designed as conventional integrated circuits in a package. This standard gives the terminology, essential ratings, characteristics, safety test and the measuring methods of magnetic and capacitive couplers. It specifies the mechanisms of magnetic and capacitive insulation barrier and the corresponding requirements for basic insulation and reinforced insulation. The responsible Committee is DKE/UK 631.1 "Einzel-Halbleiterbauelemente" ("Discrete semiconductor devices") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
