Overview

This standard specifies the requirements for systems and methods for the visual inspection and the measurement of optical fibre cabling designed in accordance with ISO/IEC 11801 or standard series DIN EN 50173 or similar standards. This standard uses standardized test methods where they exist. This standard, therefore, is intended to be applied by practicians who wish to check fibre optic cabling complying with series DIN EN 50173 (VDE 0800-173) by measurement. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN ISO/IEC 14763-3:2010-09: a) various terms and definitions have been amended and added and the symbols for connectors have been harmonised (Clause 3); b) general requirements regarding the cleaning and visual inspection of connectors and test equipment have been added (Clause 5); c) requirements for the connectors of test cords have been modified (Clause 6); d) specifications regarding the test equipment used for visual inspection (Clause 7) and for testing of installed cabling, in particular with respect to attenuation measurement by means of three test cords or of one test cord (Clause 9), have been revised; e) Annex A or, respectively, the conditions of launched modal distribution for testing the cabling of multimode optical fibres has/have been re-formulated; f) the criteria for the visual inspection of connectors (Annex B) have been re-formulated; g) Annex E has been aligned with the modifications made to Clause 9; h) example calculations of channel and permanent link limits (Annex F) have been updated; i) a new Annex H regarding the cleaning and visual inspection of fibre optic connectors has been added; j) minor, partly editorial, alignments with the other clauses of the standard have been made. The responsible committee is DKE/GUK 715.3 "Informationstechnische Verkabelung von Gebäudekomplexen" ("Customer premises cabling") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
