DIN EN 60335-2-34 ; VDE 0700-34:2014-10
Household and similar electrical appliances - Safety - Part 2-34: Particular requirements for motor-compressors (IEC 60335-2-34:2012); German version EN 60335-2-34:2013

Title (German)

Sicherheit elektrischer Geräte für den Hausgebrauch und ähnliche Zwecke - Teil 2-34: Besondere Anforderungen für Motorverdichter (IEC 60335-2-34:2012); Deutsche Fassung EN 60335-2-34:2013

Overview

This standard contains without modification the text of the international publication IEC 60335-2-34:2012 adopted as European Standard. The standard has been fundamentally revised and updated with respect to the state of the art. The tests for simulation of the fault conditions on motor compressors with incorporated electronic circuits and the EMC test have been clarified. Tests of contactors and relays in connection with motor compressors have been introduced and the overload tests in Annex AA have been extended. The International Standard IEC 60335-2-34 deals with the safety of sealed (hermetic and semi-hermetic type) motor-compressors, their protection and control systems, if any, which are intended for use in equipment for household and similar purposes and which conform with the standards applicable to such equipment. It applies to motor-compressors tested separately, under the most severe conditions that may be expected to occur in normal use, their rated voltage being not more than 250 V for single-phase motor-compressors and 480 V for other motor-compressors. Examples of equipment which contain motor-compressors are refrigerators, food freezers, ice makers, air-conditioners, electric heat pumps and dehumidifiers, commercial dispensing appliances and vending machines. This standard does not supersede the requirements of standards relevant to the particular appliance in which the motor-compressor is used. However, if the motor-compressor type used complies with this standard, the tests for the motor-compressor specified in the particular appliance standard may not need to be made in the particular appliance or assembly. If the motor-compressor control system is associated with the particular appliance control system, additional tests may be necessary on the final appliance.
