DKE German Commission for Electrical, Electronic & Information Technologies of DIN and VDE

Overview

The standards of the DIN EN 60728 (VDE 0855) series deal with cable networks including equipment and associated methods of measurement for headend reception, processing and distribution of television, sound and interactive multimedia signals, ports and using all applicable transmission media. This includes CATV-networks, MATV-networks and SMATV-networks, individual receiving networks and all kinds of equipment, systems and installations installed in such networks. This part applies to all active equipment used in cable networks (for example, broadband amplifiers). It describes the methods of measurement of the operational characteristics, defines the performance specifications to be published by the manufacturers and specifies minimum requirements. The following modifications have been made with respect to DIN EN 50083-3 (VDE 0855-3):2002-10 and DIN EN 50083-3 Corrigendum 1 (VDE 0855-3 Corrigendum 1):2006-07: a) extension of upper frequency range limit for cable network equipment from 862 MHz to 1 000 MHz; b) method of measurement and requirements for immunity to surge voltages introduced; c) extension of scope to equipment using symmetrical ports; d) additional normative references included; e) specifications for terms and definitions and abbreviations expanded; f) Annex on the derivation of non-linear distortion supplemented. The responsible Committee is K 735 "Kabelnetze und Antennen für Fernsehsignale, Tonsignale und interaktive Dienste" ("Cable networks for television signals, sound signals and interactive services") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
