Railway applications - Safety protocols for signaling applications - Part 4: Rail Safe Transport Application Protocol

Abstract

This International Standard shall provide the definition of a safe data transmission protocol in accordance with IEC 62280. This International Standard shall be applicable for safety-related electrical, electronic and programmable electronic systems (E/E/PES including sub-systems and components) for railway signal applications. This document does not apply to safety protocols inside on-board train communication networks. This International Standard is not in contradiction to the horizontal standards on OT-Security / Cybersecurity. This International Standard provides definitions and recommendations for Rail Safe Transport Application (RaSTA), a safe data transmission protocol for railway communication given by the German national standard VDE V 0831-200. The layered protocol architecture is defined together with the protocol data units for every layer. The dynamic behavior is defined using state transitions and sequences. Additionally, functional descriptions are used to define the main procedures for handling telegrams at reception and sending. To enhance availability, RaSTA is defined for use of several transport channels and retransmission of telegrams. This International Standard does not support a specific implementation but provides enough details to ensure compatible interfaces between different implementations of RaSTA.
