Secondary lithium-ion cells for the propulsion of electric road vehicles - Part 1: Performance testing
Abstract
This part of IEC 62660 specifies the procedures for testing the performance and service life of lithium-ion secondary cells used to power electric vehicles, including battery electric vehicles (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). NOTE 1 Lithium-ion secondary cells for powering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) may be tested either according to the procedure for BEVs or that for HEVs, depending on the design of the battery system, as agreed between the cell manufacturer and the customer. The purpose of this document is to specify the test methods for determining the essential characteristics of lithium-ion cells for vehicle propulsion in terms of their capacity, power density, energy density, shelf life, and cycle life. This document describes the standard test procedures and conditions for testing the basic performance characteristics of lithium-ion cells for vehicle propulsion, which are essential for ensuring a basic level of performance and determining essential data on cells for various battery system and battery pack designs. NOTE 2 Based on an agreement between the cell manufacturer and the customer, specific test conditions may be selected in addition to those specified in this document. Some selected test conditions are described in Annex A. NOTE 3 The performance tests of electrically connected lithium ion cells may be carried out with reference to this document. NOTE 4 The test specification for lithium ion battery packs and systems is specified in ISO 12405-4[1].
