Secondary lithium-ion cells for the propulsion of electric road vehicles - - Part 2: Reliability and abuse testing (IEC 62660-2:2018); German version EN IEC 62660-2:2019
Abstract
This part of IEC 62660 specifies the procedures for testing the reliability and behavior under abuse conditions of lithium-ion secondary cells and cell packs used for powering electric vehicles, including battery electric vehicles (BEV) and hybrid electric vehicles (HEV). NOTE 1 Lithium-ion secondary cells for powering plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) may be tested either according to the procedure for BEVs or that for HEVs, depending on the design of the battery system, based on an agreement between the cell manufacturer and the customer. The purpose of this document is to establish standardized test methods and test conditions for fundamental properties of lithium-ion cells intended for use in battery and hybrid vehicles. These tests are essential for determining key data on the reliability and behavior of lithium-ion cells in various battery system and battery pack designs when used improperly. This document provides a standard classification of the description of test results to be used in the design of battery systems or battery packs. NOTE 2 Cell blocks may be used as an alternative to cells, as agreed between the cell manufacturer and the customer. NOTE 3 The safety requirements for lithium-ion cells for use in electric vehicles are specified in IEC 62660-3 [3].
