Overview
The manufacturer of electroheating installations and installations for electromagnetic machining processes shall ensure that touch currents and voltages are kept at a sufficiently low level. This Technical Specification provides an overview of these touch currents and voltages in the frequency range from 1 kHz to 6 Mhz. It is also intended as a guide since, with the exception of the IEC 60601 series of standards for medical electrical equipment, no other IEC standard provides reasonably complete specifications for touch currents and voltages. Equivalent circuits tend to be too general and in some cases even inconsistent with confirmed data from the literature. The present specification refers to relevant data from IEC, IEEE, ICNIRP, EN and the scientific literature. Further contributions from calculations with model situations are given. Of utmost importance are complementary considerations of awareness, perception, and withdrawal response. All these factors are dealt with in this Technical Specification. During the preparation of lEC 60519-1:2015 it became apparent that there was a demand for a technical specification that provides an overview, guidance, and requirements for users of this standard and that addresses the next higher frequency interval above the frequencies addressed by the imported IEC 61140 and IEC 60204 series of standards. A revised IEC 61140 (the 4.0 edition to be published) deals with this problem up to 1 kHz. The responsible committee is DKE/K 362 "Industrielle Elektrowärme" ("Industrial electro-heat") of the DKE (German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies) at DIN and VDE.
