State of railway vehicles - Superstructure and special equipment of vehicles - Part 3: Steps, handles, hand rails, ladders, railings

Abstract

Wear, failures, and other damage affect the operational safety of railway vehicles. Depending on wear behavior, operating parameters, the current condition of the railway vehicles, and economic efficiency, a maintenance system must be established to ensure that the required technical target condition is maintained. The documents in the complete work “State of railway vehicles (de: Zustand der Eisenbahnfahrzeuge)” contain technical specifications for safety-relevant systems and components of railway vehicles that require monitoring. These documents define the limit state for the safe operation of railway vehicles and their components. They are to be applied if the vehicles are operated on public railway infrastructure. The minimum requirements for processes to maintain the target condition of railway vehicles set out in this document must also be applied. In addition, these documents must also be taken into account in new designs if design measures are required to ensure compliance with the operating limit criteria. DIN 27202-3, "State of railway vehicles – Superstructure and special equipment of vehicles – Part 3: Steps, handles, hand rails, ladders, railings", specifies the general provisions for the technical target condition for steps, handles, handrails, ladders, railings, walkways, gratings, stairs, signal supports, signs, rope eyes, and rope hooks on railway vehicles. This standard shall be applied mutatis mutandis to railway vehicles of different types. The following changes have been made compared to DIN 27202-3:2015-08: a) Adjustment of the foreword; b) Revision of the scope of application; c) Update of normative references; d) Image “Steps” enlarged and positioned as image 1 outside the table; e) Image “Handrail” enlarged and positioned as image 2 outside the table; f) Image “Clearance for ladders on tank cars” positioned as image 3 outside the table; g) Revision of Table 1, No. 13: “Warning signs”: Reference “see DIN 27202 1” changed to “see DIN EN 15877-1 and DIN EN 15977-2” h) Update of the bibliography; i) Editorial revision. This document was developed by subcommittee NA 087-00-15-02 UA “Superstructure and special equipment of vehicles (de:Fahrzeugaufbau und Sondereinrichtungen)” of working committee NA 087-00-15 AA “State of railway vehicles (Zustand der Eisenbahnfahrzeuge)” in the DIN standards committee “Track and rail vehicles (de: DIN-Normenausschuss Fahrweg und Schienenfahrzeuge)” (FSF) in coordination with other working committees of the FSF and the “German Commission for Electrical, Electronic and Information Technologies (de: Deutschen Kommission Elektrotechnik Elektronik Informationstechnik” (DKE).
