Digital Systems for water management - Part 1: Management and governance of the water ecosystem

Abstract

This topic has been submitted as a request for the development of a DIN SPEC according to the PAS procedure. The application is currently being examined. DIN SPECs are developed within workshops set up on a temporary basis. This document will be developed and approved by the authors who will approve the business plan. The digital transformation underway in the water industry goes hand-in-hand with procedural and organizational changes, which are presented in this DIN SPEC. This DIN SPEC presents the landscape of the German water industry in its current "control architecture" in its entirety, including the necessary connections in the European context. The document provides an overview of the most relevant usage scenarios and defines the relevant water management terms. From this basis, common principles for necessary modifications in aspects such as organization, regulation, governance, or processes of water management are introduced, ranging from local to national levels, influenced in part by the digital transformation. This document is aimed at (municipal) operators, organizations, water management associations, researchers, IT specialists, professional and technical operators of digital systems in the water management ecosystem and stakeholders in the world of smart cities. It also takes into account the current digital transformation of water management in a national municipal and transnational context, e.g. with regard to municipal data platforms or other ICT systems.
