Indoor air - Part 8: Determination of local mean ages of air in buildings for characterizing ventilation conditions
Abstract
Adequate air exchange is essential for indoor air quality. Appropriate ventilation of all buildings is necessary for the health and comfort of users, but also to protect against damage, e.g., from excessive humidity. However, the current design of residential and office buildings, with tightly sealed windows, for example, can result in insufficient air exchange, which leads to an increase in the concentration of substances emitted indoors, in addition to the desired energy savings and noise reduction. This ISO 16000-8 describes methods for determining the local age of indoor air based on the measurement of indicator gas concentrations. The concentration decay method and the active and passive homogeneous emission methods are presented as selected measurement methods. Important boundary conditions that must be observed during measurement and the interpretation of results are discussed in detailed application examples.
