Electrostatics - Part 2-4: Measurement methods - Electrostatic discharge characterisation of non-metals
Abstract
This part of IEC 61340 applies to activities and applications where non-metallic materials can pose a risk of excessive electrostatic discharge (ESD). Typical sectors include the protection of ESD sensitive devices, mitigation of electromagnetic disturbances, and prevention of explosions or ignitions involving flammable materials. This document provides guidelines and recommendations for characterizing solid materials and ESD control items through the evaluation of dynamic ESD parameters. The test methods described herein can be adapted to meet the requir ements of ESD control across various applications. This document is intended for personnel competent in the use of instrumentation such as an oscilloscope. These guidelines do not replace or supersede any safety or product performance requirements specified in other standards or codes of practice. Note: "Non-metallic material" in this context refers to the base material, not any additives that may be present in it.
